I’m Matthew Pettersen. As a licensed Athletic Trainer at Prime, I am typically the first person to help you with an acute injury. I specialize in manual therapy, injury prevention screens, telemedicine, performance optimization, injury treatment, and athletic therapy. I enjoy treating injuries like tendonitis, ligament sprains, and muscle strains in the lower body, as well as shoulder and arm. I also supervise our training room where my knowledge helps enhance recovery from injury and exercise.
My passion for Athletic Training stems from helping people to continue to be active and participating in what makes them happy.
I believe the best care comes from being hands on when possible, using manual therapy techniques and encouraging my patients to maintain their body to stay in optimal shape, producing the best results in competition. This preventive philosophy decreases, or eliminates, the majority of conditions by recognizing and treating minor issues before they progress into something much worse. This emphasis on properly maintaining the body and taking preventive measures also closely parallels a primary focus here at Prime Sports Institute. I also enjoy teaching people about the body so expect to learn a thing or two if you schedule an appointment or drop into our training room!
When not able to treat in person, I enjoy helping people through Telemedicine to screen and test for imbalances in their body and teach them how to re-balance strength and mobility in the comfort of their home.
Prime Sports Institute recognizes that the term “athlete” extends much further than the conventional settings of collegiate / professional sports, making it unique and one of the first clinics in the country to open up this kind of practice to anyone. I am very excited to be a part of this clinic because I believe anyone can benefit from the particular skill set an athletic trainer possesses, allowing them to continue and excel in whatever their passion may be.
I grew up north of Seattle, and am a Washington State University Alumni. I received a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Psychology.
You can always find me watching the Sounders, Seahawks, or Cougar Football games, Go Cougs! I grew up and continue to be very active, participating in several sports throughout high school, including track, cross country, swim team, and soccer. I continue to play soccer whenever I get the opportunity and really enjoy road cycling. Over the past year I have tried new activities that I would like to get more into like mountain biking, surfski, kayaking and I am always looking for new ways to continue to challenge myself.
